The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and, for that matter, all the Communist parties of the world, including Maoists, have banned the entry of God into their minds. These are Godless parties and take pride in their being atheists. The Communists claim that only they have understood the true nature of religion. Marx branded it as opium of the people. Mao once said to a Buddhist monk that Buddhism is poison. Recent controversy triggered by Bengal's Transport Minister Subhas Chakraborty visit to Tarapeeth is a case in point. His bowing before the Goddess Kali and donation of Rs 501 has sparked a political row. He is a veteran CPM leader and his photographs appeared on the front pages of Kolkata newspapers. Even his great mentor, former Chief Minister Jyoti Basu, expressed surprise at Chakraborty's public display of devotion, which he thought was unbecoming of a Marxist. He felt that Subhas was growing old and was perhaps overwhelmed by the fear of death. He went to visit the temple thinking that Goddess Tara would rescue him from the ordeal. The State Secretary of CPM proffered an apology. There were news items on behalf of the CPM leaders, including a politburo member, promising that the issue would be taken up at secretariat level. Another leader expected a show cause notice to the erring Marxist. But Chakraborty's response has exposed the duplicity of the CPM. There are a few interesting comments made by Subhas Chakraborty. He said why the so-called Marxists did not utter a word when he paid similar visits to other religious places like Ajmer Sharief and the Golden Temple. In a way, he was attacking the anti-Hindu approach of the CPM. Chakraborty added, "given my name, wherever I go to India I am first a Hindu and then a Brahmin. This is the truth; how can I deny it." When asked to comment on Jyoti Basu's criticism of his visit to the temple, Chakraborty said, "I can't comment on Jyoti Basu's words because he himself is like a god to me. Even if he chides or beats me I will not protest". Marxist of all hues might have buried the God long back but the God is not leaving them. Even comrade Chakraborty has a private god in Jyoti Basu. Not sparing his god, he gave a parallel example of Jyoti Basu, without naming him, when former West Bengal CM followed all the customs on his visit to certain places in Israel. Taking a dig at present Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, who deliberately avoided Chakraborty, he said, "It is time one must decide which is the greater enemy: religion or capitalism...if we can publicly court capitalists and concede that we have been practicing capitalism (referring to a Chief Minister's statement a few months ago) what stops us from going to temple." In fact, all the three religions of Semitic philosophy - Christianity, Islam and Marxism -have similar characteristics. They are the religions of Books: Bible, Quran and Das Capital, propagated by Christ, Mohd Saheb and Karl Marx. All the three nurture the ambition of bringing the whole of humanity under one umbrella. When Pope John Paul visited India in 1998, he declared, "The first millennium, we brought the whole of Europe under Christianity. In the second millennium, we brought the whole of America and Africa under Christianity. In the third millennium, we have to bring the whole of Asia under Christianity." The sword of Muslims has been trying to bring the whole human mass under Islam. The Islamists all over the world are engaged in this effort. Wahabis are contributing their might to the same cause. Similar is the story of Marxism. Prior to disintegration of Soviet Union, it had a worldwide network of Communist parties which worked in the interest of their fatherland. During Stalin's era, millions of people were physically exterminated or died of hunger and torture in the concentration camps. The toll of cultural revolution under Mao-Tse-tung was several millions lives. All the three philosophies justify violence and killings. One does not know how many Congress leaders were butchered by the Marxists before they captured power in West Bengal. I recollect a famous quote of a Marxist Minster who said, "we are not gentlemen, we are Marxists." Godless Marxists and believers Islamists have been strange bedfellows in India. They supported two-nation theory of Muslim League. They never suffered from the disease called "patriotism." Today the CPM is number one anti-Hindu party, which uses the slogan of secularism to unite so called secular forces. K M Munshi in his biography Pilgrimage to Freedom wrote in 1967, "The word 'secularism' in India has no bearing on the attitude and conduct of individuals or of religious groups. However, it has been used as a slogan of varying significance. In its name, minorities are immune to everything and have succeeded in getting even their unreasonable demands. This creates a sense of frustration in the majority community. If the misuse of 'secularism' continues, the spring of traditional tolerance (in Hinduism) will definitely dry up."
