Kashmir: Immorality and drugs in the garb of jehad?

Many of the "jehadis" in Kashmir have been found to be busy in satisfying their carnal desires, indulging in rape, molestation and consensual sex. So, are the militants using jehad as a smokescreen to cover a life of immorality and drug-abuse?

EVERY TIME WHEN a militant hideout is busted in Jammu and Kashmir, along with routine arms and ammunition, two things, which security forces recover without fail are packets of condoms and intoxicating drugs. The higher the rank of the militant killed, more the chances of recovering 'such stuff' because terror operators in Jammu and Kashmir along with their mentors believe in satisfying their lust and that too in style.

The militants spreading violence in the name of jehad, particularly those from foreign countries have been indulging in rape, molestation as well consensual sex with the local girls. And this often leads to bloody battles between them and the indigenous recruits.

After the recent killing of Saifullah Qari, Divisional Commander of Jaish-e-Mohd in Jammu, the police busted his king-size hideout in Kansar Mohalla in Poonch. As it was expected, from this place besides number of incriminating documents and other goods police also found a large stock of male contraceptives. This clearly points to the fact that the so-called jehadis, who claim to be against the exploitation of women, are themselves involved into 'such practices' grossly.

A dreaded militant and Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, Khurshid Ahmad Reshi, who was arrested by police long time back had also then admitted an increase in the 'sexual assaults' being committed by terrorists. Reshi had then admitted that most militants are sexually active and take pains to bide the affairs for fear of alienating people. Foreign militants have many times sodomized boys and even killed the girls when they got pregnant.

In the case of Qari, who was living a life of sin and decadence, a number of female over ground workers have been identified, who helped him in moving from one place to another without attracting the suspicion of security forces. Sources disclose that most of these women had not entered into militancy on their own accord. They were either pressurized or coaxed by their husbands and relatives, who are often involved with the militants.

Coercion and sexual abuse by the militants has been the bane for the women, living in terrorism-infested parts of Jammu and Kashmir for long and sometimes few security men also add up to this menace.

Not only women, young men are often found at the receiving end of the lust of the foreign terrorists, who are mostly on drugs and consider their inning in Kashmir as one meant for satisfying their bestial desires.

Talking to merinews, Mohd Imran, a resident of Kashmir criticized the terrorists for blemishing the name of jehad by doing the things that are totally against the principles of Islam. "In the name of jehad, the terrorists are simply fooling the public, but they cannot do so always," he added.

Here it is worth mentioning that local people and even terrorists have raised their voice strongly against the rape and loot being carried out by foreign operators.

Few years back, a militant from the Al Badr terrorist group was killed by security forces soon after he was caught in a compromising position with a young woman. He was hiding in a house in a Jammu and Kashmir village. The woman was shot by her brother on the spot.

Interestingly, Al-Badr is one of the groups pressuring people to adopt the Islamic way of life, where sex outside marriage is an unpardonable crime. Critical of jehad being carried out by terror organisation in the state, Aijaz Mirza, a Poonch resident, claimed that most of the foreign militants were ruthless criminals, who were least interested in the principles of Islam.
