President's
Note
India
First Foundation has decided to bring
out from time-to-time Intervention
Papers on the contemporary issues
that engage the mind and heart of
the people of India. A rapid change
is taking place in the reading habits
of the people who are finding it difficult
to spare enough time and attention
to go through heavy or multi-volume
books. The news papers and magazines
are limiting the length of write-ups
from 600 to 1500 words which can hardly
do justice to the subject. Further,
media has fallen in trap of ideological
moorings and thereby drifted away
from impartial approach. It is, therefore,
becoming increasingly difficult for
an ordinary and unbiased reader to
get a comprehensive picture and know
the other side of the coin also.
We
have, therefore, decided to bring
out Intervention Papers from time-to-time
to provide readers an informed perspective
on various issues. The papers will
be written individually or by a team
of well known authorities in the respective
fields. We expect to keep the length
of papers between 36 to 48 pages-not
too long to frighten away the readers
nor too short to trivialize the matter.
This
Intervention Paper Sachar Committee
is first one in the series. I am thankful
to the scholars associated with India
First Foundation and Prof. Makkhan
Lal for preparing this paper.
