''Society will witness a sea change
if religion tranforms into spiritual
force,'' observed President A P J
Abdul Kalam. He was speaking after
inaugurating a three-day national
meet on 'Religion, Spirituality and
Education' at St Philomena's College
here on Sunday. The spiritual force
and unity of minds will lead to human
evolution as it does not involve any
fundamental ideas. He cited the spiritual
experience that Vikram Vikram Sarabhai
undertook before establishing a scientific
research centre in Thumba. The President
called upon individuals to get rid
off their ego for a happy life. It
would lead to peace and prosperity
without violence. Kalam stressed the
need for value education. Children
should be taught moral education.
The responsibility is also to uplift
the poor, he remarked. Karnataka Rakshana
Vedike and Kabini Raitha Hitha Rakshana
Samithi members submitted a memorandum
to the President seeking his intervention
to resolve the Cauvery row. Governor
T N Chaturvedi, Archbishop Bernard
Moraes, former Archbishop of Bangalore
Ignatious Pinto, Suttur Mutt seer
Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami and
others were present.
