Indian Elected Chairman of U.N. Panel
 

Desh Deepak Verma, joint secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests has been elected chairman of the working group for the U.N. Convention on Biological Diversity in the ongoing Seventh Conference of Parties (CoP) meet at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The issues for the CoP-7 include the biological diversity of mountain ecosystems, the role of protected areas in the preservation of biological diversity, the transfer of technology cooperation as well as the target set at its sixth meeting that is to be achieved by the year 2010.

Rattan Tata made Honorary Eco Advisor of East China City
 

Beijing: In a rare honour, Chairman of Tata group of companies, Ratan Tata was made honorary economic advisor to the booming east Chinese city of Hangzhou .The title was conferred on Tata when he called on the mayor of Hangzhou city, Mao Linsheng. Tata and Mao discussed issues of common interest and ways to further promote business relations between the Tata group and Hangzhou city as well as between India and China.
