Chennai
Girl To Represent India In World Roller
Skating
|
| |
|
Fifteen-year-old
Amritha Jetha is a trailblazer in
her own right: she is the only girl
from Tamil Nadu who will be donning
the Indian colours in the World Track
and Speed Roller Skating Meet to be
held at Suzhou in China from August
24 to September 2. Despite being her
first foray in an international meet,
she is brimming with confidence. ''My
aim is to do well and win a medal
for India'', she said. Her confidence
got a boost when she found a sponsor
-- Shree Krishna Collections (SKC),
a leading readymade garment retail
showroom, at a time when she was struggling
to mop up Rs 65,000 for the trip.
Receiving the cheque from SKC Managing
Director Praful Bisani at a function
here, she profusely thanked him for
the timely help to make her dream
come true. ''With this kind of support,
I can do well in future also. At present
my target is to do well in the World
Meet,'' she said. An 11th standard
student from Jaigopal Garodia Vidyalaya
at Annanagar, Amritha had done exceedingly
well in the last Nationals held in
December 2004. Of the two events in
which she had participated, Amritha
returned with a gold and a silver,
enabling her selection for the world
meet. Amrita would attend a 15-day
intensive training camp at New Delhi
for the Indian team before leaving
for China. Speaking on the occasion,
Chennai District Roller Skating Association
Secretary Ranjan said, ''Amritha is
a very good talent and is a sure medal
prospect. She has a good chance of
winning a medal in China,'' he added.
Overall, he said, India, which was
second in Asia behind China in this
sport, was expected to do well in
the World Meet. Mr Bisani said lot
of people should come forward to ensure
that such talents did not go waste
for want of money.
