Left
Front Objects to Order of Election Commission
|
| |
|
The
ruling Left Front has reservations against
the Election Commission order to delete
from the electoral rolls the names of those
against whom non-bailable warrants were
pending for over six months. The issue was
discussed at a meeting of the Left Front
committee on Monday, two days before the
three-day visit of Chief Election Commissioner
B.B. Tandon. Deletion of names of persons
not convicted in any case would be an infringement
of their democratic and fundamental rights,
Biman Bose, chairman of the Left Front committee,
said. Even if a person was convicted by
a lower court, the option of moving the
Supreme Court was available, Mr. Bose, who
is also a Polit Bureau member of the Communist
Party of India (Marxist), said. Mr. Tandon
will meet leaders of various political parties
and also District Magistrates during his
visit, official sources said. State Chief
Electoral Officer Debashis Sen said show-cause
notices had been issued to 25 Electoral
Registration Officers for dereliction of
duty during the revision of electoral rolls.

India
Will Partner Engineering Mega Fair
|
| |
|
After
a gap of 21 years, India will be the partner
country at the world's largest "industrial
engineering fair" at Hanover, Germany next
year. India's participation at the Hanover
mega event between April 22 and 26, 2006,
is part of an overall strategy to pitch
India as a preferred global 'manufacturing
hub' and 'engineering base'. At the fair,
Indian firms in the large, medium and small
sectors will mostly have a presence on sectors
such as energy, automotive and a wide range
of industrial subcontracting services, said
senior officials from the ministry of commerce
and industry. The fair, which will target
OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers),
vendors and service providers alike, will
also give the Indian firms an opportunity
to gauge the latest manufacturing trends.
